At a glance

  • Laser uses concentrated light energy to target specific concerns in the skin.
  • Skin tone, sun exposure and medications all affect suitability.
  • Results build over a course of sessions.

How laser treatments work

Laser and light-based treatments deliver concentrated light energy into the skin. Different wavelengths and settings target different things — such as pigment, hair follicles or the deeper layers of skin involved in texture and firmness. Because light interacts with colour and depth in the skin, settings must be carefully matched to each person.

Why the consultation comes first

Laser treatments at Fuse begin with a professional consultation. Your practitioner will look at your skin, discuss your goals and review factors that affect safety and suitability, including:

  • Your skin tone and how your skin responds to sun.
  • Recent tanning, sun exposure or self-tan.
  • Medications and skincare actives, including retinoids.
  • Skin conditions, pregnancy, or a history of cold sores, scarring or pigmentation after injury.

Your practitioner will advise whether you need a patch test before a full treatment.

Preparing for your appointment

  • Avoid sun exposure, solariums and self-tan on the area beforehand, as advised by your practitioner.
  • Follow any instructions about pausing active skincare.
  • Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, lotion and deodorant on the treatment area.

What to expect afterwards

It is common for skin to look a little pink or feel warm after treatment, and this settles as the skin calms. Treat the area gently, avoid heat and intense exercise for as long as your practitioner recommends, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day — sun protection is one of the most important parts of laser aftercare.

Results take time

Most concerns respond best to a course of treatments spaced several weeks apart, giving skin time to respond and renew between sessions. Your practitioner will recommend a personalised plan based on your skin and goals.
