At a glance

  • Tell your therapist about medications, skincare actives and recent treatments.
  • Skip waxing and strong exfoliation in the days before.
  • Afterwards, keep skin calm, protected and hydrated.

In the days before

  • Avoid waxing, threading or strong exfoliants on the face for a couple of days beforehand.
  • Let your therapist know if you use prescription skincare, retinoids or acids, or have had recent cosmetic treatments.
  • Mention any allergies, skin conditions or pregnancy when you book.
  • If your skin is sunburnt, let it recover before your facial.

On the day

Come as you are. Cleansing is part of the treatment, so there is no need to arrive makeup-free. Allow a few minutes to settle in and complete your consultation details — the more your therapist knows about your skin, the better they can tailor your treatment.

Straight afterwards

  • Keep makeup light, or skip it for the rest of the day where you can.
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas and very hot showers for the rest of the day, as heat can increase redness.
  • Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply if you are outdoors.
  • Drink water and use the products your therapist recommends.

After a peel or resurfacing treatment

After stronger exfoliating treatments, such as a professional peel, skin can feel warm, tight or slightly flaky for a few days. Avoid picking, pause other exfoliants and actives for as long as your therapist advises, and be especially consistent with sunscreen while your skin renews.

Making results last

A professional facial works best when it is supported at home. Ask your therapist for a simple routine to follow between appointments — our guide to building a Dermalogica routine is a good place to start.
