Cosmetic tattoo brows: what to expect while they heal
From the first few days to your follow-up appointment — what’s normal as cosmetic tattoo brows heal, and how to care for them.

At a glance
- Brows look darker and sharper at first, then soften.
- Keep the area clean, avoid picking and follow your artist’s aftercare.
- Your artist will confirm whether you need a follow-up once healed.
Results that settle over time
Cosmetic tattooing places pigment in the upper layers of the skin to create natural-looking definition. Immediately after treatment, brows look darker and bolder than the final result. Over the following weeks, colour softens as the skin heals.
The first week
Some redness, tenderness and mild swelling is common early on. As the skin heals, a tight or itchy feeling and light flaking are normal. Don’t pick or rub — let flakes come away naturally so the pigment heals evenly.
Aftercare essentials
- Follow your artist’s instructions on cleansing and aftercare balm.
- Keep makeup and skincare off the brows while they heal, unless advised otherwise.
- Avoid swimming, saunas, heavy sweating and direct sun during healing.
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase and avoid sleeping face-down.
Your follow-up appointment
Skin heals differently from person to person, so some areas hold pigment more than others. A follow-up once the skin has fully healed lets your artist refine shape and colour. Your artist will advise on timing.
